Forum Mobility booked combined orders for 60 Tesla Semi heavy-duty trucks from two California port-drayage operators on May 5, 2026, marking one of the largest single Tesla Semi fleet commitments to date and pulling Tesla’s Class 8 battery-electric program into commercial port-drayage service.

The Project

The order involves Big F Transport, which committed to 40 trucks, and NICA Container Freight Line, which ordered 20. Both fleets will charge and operate out of Forum Mobility’s new FM Santa Fe depot in Rancho Dominguez, California. The depot, currently under construction in the Los Angeles Basin port-drayage corridor, is designed for 14 Tesla Megawatt Charging System (MCS) chargers and is sized to support the daily charging needs of more than 200 zero-emission trucks, according to a May 5, 2026 Electrek report. Both fleets are expected to begin operations from the depot in early 2027. Forum Mobility, an Amazon- and CBRE Investment Management-backed company, has raised $15 million in Series A funding and established a $400 million joint venture with CBRE Investment Management to build out its charging-depot network.

Why It Matters

This commitment places Tesla’s Semi program directly into commercial port-drayage operations, a sector heavily influenced by the California Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation. This regulation mandates the transition of public and drayage fleets to zero-emission vehicles. The order follows Tesla’s March 8, 2026 launch of its first publicly available Megacharger station in Ontario, California, and the May 2026 introduction of the Semi Charging for Business program, with Megacharger units priced from $188,000 for a two-post installation. Tesla has disclosed 64 Megacharger locations across 15 states, targeting 37 sites operational by year-end 2026, growing to 46 by early 2027. Competitors Daimler Truck North America, Volvo Trucks North America, and Scania have also announced MCS-compatible Class 8 electric trucks planned for U.S. delivery in 2026.

Critical Perspective

Neither Big F Transport nor NICA Container Freight Line disclosed the per-truck purchase price or the financing structure for their orders. Forum Mobility also did not disclose the FM Santa Fe depot’s per-charger installed cost or its grid interconnection size with Southern California Edison. The depot’s grid interconnection date and tariff schedule remain undisclosed, leaving questions about the project’s full financial scope and its integration with the existing power infrastructure.
