DG Matrix Ships First Commercially Available Multiport Solid-State Transformer Aligned With NVIDIA 800VDC AI Factory Spec

DG Matrix shipped the first commercially available multiport solid-state transformer (SST) in February 2026, an event the company timed to coincide with its Series A funding round led by Engine Ventures. The Multi-Port Solid-State Transformer (MP-SST) platform is the first SST product designed explicitly to NVIDIA’s 800 VDC AI Factory specification and the OpenCompute Project (OCP) Mount Diablo architecture, two specifications that have rapidly emerged as the de facto standard for AI data center power.

The multiport architecture distinguishes the DG Matrix design from competing single-port SSTs offered by Eaton (via Resilient Power), Amperesand, and Heron Power. A multiport SST presents a single medium-voltage utility connection and multiple isolated DC and AC outputs from one chassis. In a data center context, the multiport configuration allows simultaneous delivery of 800 VDC to AI accelerator racks, lower-voltage DC to peripheral systems, and AC to facility loads from a single conversion stage.

DG Matrix claims peak efficiency of 98.5 percent across the conversion, microsecond-scale dynamic power response, and what the company calls “industry-leading reliability” that has not been independently benchmarked. The microsecond dynamic response figure is the most consequential of the three claims because AI training and inference workloads create large, fast power transients that conventional 50/60 Hz transformer infrastructure cannot follow. SSTs in general, and multiport SSTs specifically, can.

The strategic positioning of DG Matrix is also worth noting. ABB Ltd. made a strategic equity investment in DG Matrix in March 2025 even while ABB ran its own internal SST development. The signal from one of the world’s largest established transformer manufacturers is that the multiport architecture is sufficiently distinct from conventional SST topologies to warrant external capital placement.

The relevance of the NVIDIA 800 VDC AI Factory specification is itself worth observation. NVIDIA, OCP, and a coalition of hyperscale operators have moved aggressively in 2024 and 2025 to standardize data center power distribution on 800 VDC, displacing the 415 VAC and 480 VAC architectures that have dominated the previous twenty years. SSTs are the enabling MV-to-800-VDC bridge for that transition. DG Matrix has won the first-to-market position.

Why It Matters

Data center electrical engineers and procurement leads should treat first commercial multiport SST claims as marketing positioning until DG Matrix or any competitor publishes a deployed-customer name, an independent IEEE 519 test report, and a year-one operational availability number. The strategic implication of multiport architectures is real (fewer conversion stages, fewer cabinets, less floor space) but the realized advantage depends on field data that is not yet public.

Critical Perspective

DG Matrix’s first commercially available multiport SST claim depends on a narrow definition of multiport, of commercial, and of available. A handful of substation-class SST prototypes from FREEDM and from utility R&D programs already implement multiport AC and DC interfaces; the claim of first commercial turns on the existence of a paying customer with a deployed unit. DG Matrix has not yet published the customer name, the deployment site, or independent operational data. The NVIDIA 800 VDC AI Factory specification and the OCP Mount Diablo architecture are de facto standards because NVIDIA’s GPU shipment volume effectively dictates rack-power architecture; aligning to those specs is necessary but not sufficient evidence of product-market fit, because every credible SST vendor in 2026 is making the same alignment claim. The peak efficiency number quoted in DG Matrix marketing materials applies at a specific operating point and load profile; data center buyers should require the full efficiency-versus-load curve and the IEEE 519 test report before committing to a procurement.
