Banpu Power US Corporation (BPPUS) has bought a 100 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in ERCOT Houston for $90 million. This is BPPUS’s first investment in US battery storage. The Megamouth project has 200 MWh of energy storage and will operate in a region with significant demand growth and grid congestion.
Megamouth Project Details
The Megamouth BESS project is located in the ERCOT Houston zone. It has 100 MW of power capacity and 200 MWh of energy storage. This project will provide critical grid-balancing services. Ascend Analytics helped Grid Connected Infrastructure, LLC (GCI) with valuation, market intelligence, and transaction support through their Energy Exchange platform.
Why It Matters
BPPUS invested $90 million in the Megamouth project, which is backed by a 40% investment tax credit (ITC). This shows that large-scale battery storage projects in areas with dynamic grid needs are financially attractive. GCI sold its first project since founding in 2022, demonstrating its rapid development model for high-value locations.
